The incharge of Sarhali police station in Tarn Taran, which was targeted by a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) a day ago, was shifted on Sunday, officials said.
Bomb disposal squads of the Punjab Police, meanwhile, defused the RPG near Harike headworks amid high security.
Parkash Singh has been shifted to the CIA staff in Patti, while inspector Sukhbir Singh replaced him as the station house officer (SHO) of Sarhali, which falls on Amritsar-Bathinda national highway. As per sources, decision of the transfer was made on Saturday night.
Operation of defusing the RPG was carried out under the supervision of Patti DSP Satnam Singh. Heavy police force was deployed in the area during the operation and all access points were sealed to prevent any untoward incident.
A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team, which reached the spot on Saturday evening, was also carrying out its probe, the officials said.
As per sources, the police have rounded up several persons, but are reluctant to share anything with media. A police official said findings of the investigation will be disclosed in two to three days.

{{/usCountry}}The projectile, fired by some unidentified people, hit the Saanjh Kendra adjoining the Sarhali police station on Friday night.
The weapon, which the sources said was a Russian-made RPG 28, first struck the iron grilles of the gate of the police station and then hit the wall of the Saanjh Kendra causing a low-intensity blast.
At least 10 persons, including the station house officer, were present on duty during the attack, but no casualty was reported.
Director general of police Gaurav Yadav had visited the site on Saturday and said according to preliminary investigation, the grenade was fired by using an RPG from the highway at 11.22pm and it hit the suvidha centre of the Sarhali police station.
