The Ludhiana municipal corporation has issued a recovery notice of ₹75 lakh to a hotel on SBS Nagar Road after alleged discrepancies were found in filing of property tax returns.

As per information, the hotel owner hid the fact that the building is on rent and has been filing returns as self-occupied. Officials stated that the owner has to pay 7.5% of the annual rent as property tax and it is lesser if the building is self-occupied. Also, as per norms, 100% penalty is imposed on the evaded amount.
Meanwhile, a hospital in Gurdev Nagar has also been issued a recovery notice of ₹9 lakh for alleged tax evasion.
The hospital owner showed lesser covered area in the property tax returns filed in the past, officials said. The tax is calculated on the basis of the covered area.
Zonal commissioner (Zone D) Jasdev Sekhon stated that the tax returns are filed on self-assessment basis and now the MC is scrutinising it to check tax evasion.
