The victim, Jagtar Singh, hailing from Sundernagar, Himachal Pradesh, told the police that he had come to Chandigarh in his Hyundai Creta for some work on Thursday.

Around 11.30 pm, he parked his car near Stairs Number 3 at the lake’s back end. When he returned to his car after a while, he saw a window glass broken, and his laptop, 1.95 lakh in cash and some important documents gone.

He approached the police at the Sector-3 station, where a case under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code was registered on Friday.

In a similar case on March 24, thieves had stolen two laptops, a mobile phone and a wallet from a car parked near Stairs Number 2 at the lake’s back end. Here, the car was still locked and no glass was broken when the car’s occupants returned after an hour.
