A security contractor from Saharanpur was arrested on Friday for assaulting a constable in a road-rage incident in Himachal Pradesh’s Paonta Sahib on June 3.

The incident occurred when constable Rajesh Chinta, assigned to the 6th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), was heading for lunch from the Taruwala strong room in Sirmaur district on June 3. A speeding driver improperly overtook and sharply cut off his scooter, narrowly avoiding a collision. When Chinta signalled the driver to stop, the motorist became aggressive, initiated an argument, and physically assaulted the constable.

A video of the confrontation shows the assailant forcibly dragging the constable back as he attempted to leave. During the scuffle, the attacker grabbed and pulled at the Chinta’s helmet, sending the scooter crashing to the ground.

Additional superintendent of police Yogesh Rolta confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a written complaint. The accused, identified as Farman, a security contractor for a private company in Paonta Sahib and a resident of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on Friday.

State BJP media convener Karan Nanda blamed the ruling Congress government for the deteriorating law-and-order situation. Nanda alleged that assaults are becoming a daily occurrence.
