KANPUR A 14-year-old Class 8 boy was critically injured after a car struck his bicycle and dragged him for nearly 25 metres in the Kalyanpur area here on Wednesday evening. The alleged driver, who fled the scene after dumping the injured boy by the roadside, was arrested on Thursday following public outrage and the surfacing of the CCTV footage of the incident.

The incident occurred around 6 pm near Awas Vikas-1. The victim, identified as Aadi, was riding his bicycle close to his home when the car rammed into him. The CCTV footage purportedly shows the boy getting trapped beneath the vehicle as it continued moving before finally coming to a halt.
Rather than seeking medical help, the driver reportedly stepped out, pulled the grievously injured boy from under the chassis, left him on the side of the road, and fled the scene on foot. Aadi was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
DCP (west) Qasim Abidi said Kalyanpur police had arrested one Diwakar in connection with the case. A was registered under Sections 281 and 125(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further legal proceedings were underway.
Aadi is the son of Sandeep Tiwari, a resident of Awas Vikas-1. His father alleged that the incident may have been deliberate and raised the possibility of a conspiracy. Police said they were investigating the allegation.
