LUCKNOW District inspector of schools (Lucknow) Rakesh Kumar said that only a handful of schools had responded to his letter over the compliance of the court’s order on 15% rebate on fees during the Covid period (session 2020-21). The schools were supposed to respond by April 28.
Pioneer Montessori School and St Joseph’s Group of Institutions responded to the letter, claiming that they had made the adjustment but had not shared any further details. While Seth MR Jaipuria School, in a verbal communication, informed that they had filed SLP in the court challenging the order on fees adjustment, said Kumar.
“We have filed SLP in the court, challenging the 15% fees adjustment order. The needful will be done as per court’s order,” said Promini Chopra, principal, Seth MR Jaipuria School.
The Allahabad high court had on January 6, 2023, directed all schools in Uttar Pradesh to provide a 15% rebate on the total fees charged during the Covid period in 2020-21.
After the HC’s directives, the UP government, through the district magistrate, Lucknow, had issued orders to all educational institutions for adjustment/refund of 15% of fees paid by parents during 2020-2021. La Martiniere College was the first school that announced to make the fee adjustment.
Cathedral Senior Secondary School has also announced that 15% fees of students of classes 2 to 12 will be adjusted/refunded in the July 2023 instalment, as per the direction given by the high court. “Fees will be adjusted/refunded only for those students who have paid the full fees in the session 2020-21,” said Fr Anil Parker, principal of the school.

{{/usCountry}}The Unaided Private Schools Association, in a statement, had claimed that a rebate of up to 20% on fees during the Covid-19 period in June 2020 had been, and most of the schools of the association had already abided by it.
“At present, it has come to notice that some schools have not refunded or adjusted 15% fees even after the high court order. The association expects that the order will be followed by schools that had not given any exemption at that time,” said an office-bearer of the association.
