Nippy Sunday evening, lush green rain-washed Lucknow Golf Club course and pool side provided a perfect atmosphere for Lucknowites to enjoy the ‘Heart to Happiness’ musical evening. Organised by Global Lucknow, the evening saw performances by professionals and foreign nationals who are living in the state capital.

Cardiologist Dr Rishi Sethi opened the evening with Phir le Aaya Dil from Barfi. He then presented Guncha (Main, Meri Patni Aur Who) and changed the mood by presenting Fields of Gold by Sting. The doctor-singer earned a big round of applause for his powerful rendition.

He was followed by Dr Prabha Srivastava, a dental surgeon at military hospital, singing ghazals. She presented Jagjit Singh’s famous ghazal Tumko Dekha, nazm Baat Niklegi to Phir and concluded with Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s ghazal Gulon Mein Rang Bhare.

Masih Elham from Kabul, Afghanistan, who is pursuing PhD in policy development from Lucknow University, came up as a surprise package. An ardent fan of Mohammad Rafi, he presented the songs by the great singer and in between in the same tune, he sang a few portions of it in Persian language. He then sang a peppy number in his native language. This seamless fusion music was one of the high points of the concert. The audience who cheered and clapped with him.

During the open mic session, Unicef official Prasanna Ariyarathna too presented a regional song. Former ambassador Wajahat Habibullah presented Irish folk song Danny Boy. He also joined the members as they broke into a jig on the tunes of Indian Saints band. Vocalists Utkarsh and Jyoti, guitarist Dhruv, percussionist Ankit, Ritesh on tabla and Augustin on keyboards enthralled all. Towards the end, foreign national Carlos sang Macarena.

Group’s leaders Amrita Dass, Bulbul Godiyal, Noor Khan and Kiron Chopra felicitated the foreign nationals. The event was ably anchored by Bina Krishna.
