The state capital’s roads witnessed chaotic scenes on Friday as rain during peak office hours, waterlogging and vehicle breakdowns caused commuters to remain stuck in long queues while returning home from work across several parts of the city.

The congestion was particularly noticeable around major junctions and arterial roads. Motorists reported slow or virtually stalled traffic at multiple locations.
At Awadh Chauraha, the situation turned particularly difficult. A user on X, Devendra Kumar Verma, tagged the Lucknow traffic police and senior officials while reporting that an ambulance was stuck amid the congestion.
A vehicle breaking down on the busy Shaheed Path in Gomti Nagar triggered a traffic snarl.
“With traffic already moving slowly because of the rain, the stalled vehicle further choked the carriageway,” said a commuter returning home from office.
Waterlogging added to the trouble on roads leading towards Hazratganj, causing traffic to build up on the Civil Hospital Park Road stretch.
The 1090 intersection was another major congestion point with traffic backing up towards Kalidas Marg. Netizens shared photographs on social media. Heavy traffic was also witnessed on Meerabai Marg after rainfall.
“The timing of the showers made matters worse. With rain coinciding with the hours when people were returning home from office, the volume of vehicles on roads increased sharply just as waterlogging and breakdowns began slowing traffic. The beginning of the weekend added to the evening rush, turning several stretches into bottlenecks,” said a traffic police personnel on duty.
