Noida's DIOS issued notices to 38 unregistered coaching institutes for safety violations, requiring registration and fire certificates after a deadly fire incident.

Noida: The Gautam Budh Nagar district inspector of schools (DIOS) office has issued notices to 38 coaching institutes for allegedly operating without valid registration, officials said on Monday, adding that 11 more institutes are likely to receive similar notices.

The move, aimed to ensure students’ safety at coaching institutes in the district, is driven by the June 22 fire incident at a coaching institute in Lucknow which had left 15 people dead.

“We have issued 38 notices so far and plan to issue 11 more. If a coaching centre is not registered with us, it is considered illegal. Once registered, the centre must also obtain a fire no-objection certificate (NOC). The registration fee is around ₹25,000. We issue the registration after verifying the documents,” said Chandra Shekhar, the DIOS.

The notice requires the operators to appear before the office with all valid documents and the registration fee to get registered. It also warns that conducting coaching without proper registration or permission to operate will invite “action under the Uttar Pradesh Coaching Regulation Act, 2002, prevailing government orders and other applicable legal provisions”.

Following the notices, some coaching institutes are preparing to apply for a proper registration.

“Ours is a small centre, and I am the teacher. I teach around 10-12 students per batch in a single classroom. As soon as we became aware of the issue, we decided to get the paperwork done as soon as possible,” said Rahul Kumar, manager at Kumar’s Institute, in Noida Sector 45.

HT contacted several coaching centres, who were sent the notices but some of them claimed to have not received them.

“We have not received any notice. Ours is a new centre that we opened in collaboration with another centre. We currently have only one batch of students here,” said Prashant Kumar, manager of Eklavya Institute of Education, Noida Sector 49.
