The Gautam Budh Nagar Traffic Police will launch a 15-day campaign called “Discipline on the Road” on Friday to curb wrong-side driving, roadside parking of vehicles, and parking in No-Parking zones, officials said on Thursday. Officials added that the drive will target residential sectors and office areas of Noida and Greater Noida.

Anil Kumar Yadav, deputy commissioner of police, traffic, said that the violators will face penalties, and repeat offenders will face increased fines.

According to Yadav, unauthorised parking of buses used by schools and private firms, trucks, and cars on main roads, main markets, and inside sectors, as well as wrong-side driving, have become major issues that disrupt traffic flow in Gautam Budh Nagar. “The 15-day campaign has been launched to address these issues, and traffic personnel may seize or tow away any vehicles violating the norms,” he said.

He also added that apart from the special drive, the traffic police regularly fine offenders. “Between January 1, 2023, and April 25, 2023, Gautam Budh Nagar traffic police have imposed 2,35,000 fines, compared to only 1,27,000 fines during the same period last year,” the DCP said adding that the police are always focused on enforcing traffic regulations, and this drive is just an additional measure to ensure smooth traffic flow.

“The campaign will emphasise effective enforcement of no-parking, illegal parking, and wrong-side driving, with erring vehicles being towed away using cranes. The divisional transport department and roadways department are also assisting in the implementation of the plan,” Yadav said.

According to officials, to ensure the campaign’s success, DCP Yadav held a meeting with assistant commissioners of police, all traffic inspectors, and traffic sub-inspectors. They were thoroughly briefed about the initiative to make it more effective.
