The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) management served show cause notices to eight doctors following the death of two persons within 48 hours between Thursday night and Friday evening at the hospital, officials said on Sunday.
“Two doctors from the paediatric department and six doctors from the surgery department have been show-caused in the wake of the death of a 12-year-old boy and a 42-year-old man on Thursday night and Friday evening. The action came after an emergency meeting of the management headed by MGMMCH principal Dr Sanjay Kumar and superintendent Dr Balram Jha. All the six doctors from the surgery department with unit head Dr Sarwar Alam were summoned to the meeting and issued strict directions for being more careful, conscious and dutiful,” a senior MGMMCH official said on Sunday.
The two doctors from the paediatric department Dr Salman, junior resident, and Dr Nitesh Kumar, senior resident, have been show-caused to clarify their absence from duty on Friday without any approved leave or information to the authorities.

{{/usCountry}}Officials said the six doctors from the surgery department came under fire for admitting 42-year-old Sukhram Tudu, elder brother of AJSU SC-ST wing chief Mangal Tudu, under the surgery department even though he had chest pain and cardiac problems.
“Sukhram Tudu, a resident of Edelbera, died in the emergency ward though he had chest pain but mistakenly his admission slip was made of surgery department. Doctors told the meeting that Tudu had urinary problem and hence catheter was inserted. But doctors were in a bind as to if his case was of surgery or medicine department,” the MGMMCH official said.
“If the replies of these doctors are not satisfactory, we will write to the department for action. All the doctors and nurses have been directed to be present in emergency ward and operation theatres (OTs) on time. They have been asked to be attentive during duty hours and stringent action will be taken if any doctor or health staff is found absent from duty during inspection,” Dr Balram Jha said.
