Teachers are the architects of youth power and they should be at the centre of fundamental reforms in the education system, said former President Ram Nath Kovind while speaking as chief guest at the two-day national seminar on “Emerging challenges in higher education before academia’’.

The seminar was held at the Inter University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), Banaras Hindu University on Friday.

The former President further emphasized on learning, teaching and living in the present moment and said that it was the job of a teacher to think and meditate.

“Every person should be ready to learn while remaining egoless,” said Kovind and stressed on the importance of education in mother tongue and its use.

He also said that teachers at all levels must be re-established as the most respected and essential members of our society, as they actually shape our next generation of citizens.

Presiding over the inaugural session, Prof Jagmohan Singh Rajput said the biggest challenge before academia was to look within in the light of expectations from it. That requires a thorough study of the history, heritage, culture and the tradition of knowledge creation and generation. He exhorted the educationists to work hard to restore their credibility and to bring the credibility of higher education institutions to an advanced level once again.

While delivering the welcome address, director of the centre Prof Prem Narayan Singh apprised the participants about the need and outline of the national seminar. He introduced the guests and participants with the responsibilities of IUCTE in the light of the National Education Policy (NEP).

Dr Rachna Vishwakarma moderated the event and the vote of thanks was proposed by Harishchandra, senior administrative officer of the centre.

There were a total of more than 100 participants in the national seminar. Moreover, there will be talks by 15 subject experts in different sessions of the seminar.
