A 34-year-old man died after allegedly being assaulted following a minor dispute at a roadside food stall in Ganesh Peth on Sunday

PUNE: A 34-year-old man died after allegedly being assaulted following a minor dispute at a roadside food stall in Ganesh Peth on Sunday. The argument reportedly began after his foot touched another man while he was having a snack.

The deceased was identified as Shivam Rajesh Pardeshi, 34, a resident of Ganesh Peth. The accused, Vaibhav Kishor Salunkhe, 24, is also from the area. Faraskhana police have detained Salunkhe in connection with the incident.

According to the police complaint, the incident took place around 3.30 pm near Durvesh Snack Centre near Dhule Maruti Chowk.

Rajesh Mahala, police inspector (Crime), Faraskhana police station, said, “Shivam was eating a misal snack at the stall when his foot allegedly touched Salunkhe’s foot, leading to an argument between the two. Police said the dispute escalated and Salunkhe allegedly assaulted Shivam with kicks and punches, hitting him on the chest, abdomen and other parts of his body.”

Police identified Salunkhe after analysing CCTV footage from the area and detained him, Mahala said.

Faraskhana police have registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police are investigating the circumstances of the assault and the cause of death. Medical and post-mortem findings are expected to establish the cause of death.
