The national highway authority on Wednesday started the repair work of the foot overbridge at Signature Towers crossing, which had partially caved in on the Maharana Pratap Chowk side due to heavy rain on Tuesday. Officials said that the bridge was under construction and not in use and the damage was caused due to earth caving in near the base.

The base of the pillars was reinforced with soil and the contractor also removed the damaged stairs, which are being fixed afresh. “The foot overbridge is under construction and it has not been completed yet. Hence, such kind of incidents can happen. The repair work is being carried out and would be completed soon, ” Ashok Sharma, project director, NHAI, said.
Due to the seepage of rainwater on Tuesday morning, a part of the bridge had sunk after soil loosened.
Traffic officials posted at the site said that an earthmover was placed on the road, which was damaged along with the foot over bridge.
