In the chaotic world that we live in today, it is important to see what can calm us down and how to keep ourselves happy and entertained on a daily basis. Since we can’t disassociate ourselves from the rest of the maddening world, we must find ways to keep ourselves in sanity and good cheer.

Some of the successful and happier people I have studied make it a point to ‘reward’ themselves daily. It could be by way of taking a brief break from their daily hard work routine and indulge in their hobby that not only gives them relief but also strengthens them to cope up with the rest of the day’s strenuous work.

Or it could be rewarding yourself with a visit to your favourite cafe for a few joyous moments. Or doing any other thing that gives you a big boost.

For me, nothing acts as a better stimulant than reading a good book and going through the day’s newspapers.

A complete reading of a newspaper or two gives me a feeling that I have ‘conquered’ the whole world. I feel triumphant and it gives me a sense of elation and fulfilment. And a beautiful day awaits you.

Perhaps it was in this context that Chinese philosopher Confucius was very particular on the need to plan and have a good, meaningful day. He had said that a person who was reluctant to plan his day can’t escape trouble at his door.
