Lok Sabha elections 2019: Bengal’s Arambagh constituency was a CPI(M) citadel

The Arambagh Lok Sabha seat is one of 42 parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal and is reserved for members of Scheduled Castes.

The CPI(M)’s Anil Basu won the seat seven times consecutively from 1984 to 2004. His party colleague Saktimohan Malik won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha election. The Trinamool Congress’ Aparupa Poddar broke into the left party’s bastion in the 2014 election.

West Bengal will see polling on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19 during all the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election. Votes will be counted on May 23.
