Ashwin finishes formalities

It took India three overs to finish the game. After Hardik Pandya and Shami, Kohli turned to Ashwin. The job was done off the fifth ball of the over as Anderson is caught by Rahane. Kohli is celebrating his 22nd win as Test skipper. A thumping win to answer the critics.

England delay inevitable

Adil Rashid and James Anderson continue to frustrate the Indian bowlers as they have played out two overs. Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami have started proceedings for the visitors and it will be interesting to see for how long this goes on.

Bumrah wears a smile

Bumrah outsmarted England skipper Joe Root (13) and then broke a 169-run stand spanning 57.2 overs between his Mumbai Indians teammate Jos Buttler (106) and Ben Stokes (62), trapping the former leg before. He bowled a marathon 26 overs on Day 4, including nine in the morning and 11 in the extended, final session. “When I made my first-class debut, my first spell was of 10 overs,” he said, after taking 5/85 for a match haul of seven. “I was always used to bowling lots of overs in Ranji Trophy. When I was injured I was working on my fitness. I was always in touch with our trainers -- whenever I come I should be in a good space.”

However, India will have to wait to pick a wicket after their roll was turned into a battle of attrition initiated by two unlikely England batsmen in the Trent Bridge Test. But England’s last wicket pair of Adil Rashid and James Anderson held out in the extended 30 minutes to keep India waiting till the last day. England were 311/9, 209 runs behind. Skipper Virat Kohli, hands clasped behind the back at third slip, watched his bowlers toil for well over four hours as Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes produced a mini-epic. India broke the resistance once the second new ball gave them more ammunition to attack on a pitch offering little help.
