Australia pulled off the highest run chase in T20 international cricket history when they chased down the target of 244 set by New Zealand with seven balls to spare in a tri-series T20 match in Auckland on Wednesday. Openers David Warner and D’Arcy Short both scored fifties before middle-order batsmen comfortably finished down the chase for Australia. Earlier, New Zealand rode on a quickfire 105 by opener Martin Guptill to post 243/6, their joint-highest total in T20 cricket. Guptill broke Brendon McCullum’s record for the fastest ever century by a Kiwi batsman when he completed his ton off 49 balls. Australia’s win means England can qualify for the final by beating New Zealand in the last league game.
