The Boxing Day Test between South Africa vs Zimbabwe was trialled as an inaugural four-day match but the contest did not even go that far. After South Africa declared at 309/9 in the first innings, Morne Morkel left Zimbabwe reeling with a five-wicket haul as the visitors continued to struggle in the early parts of the second day. They were eventually dismissed for a paltry total of 68 and the hosts duly enforced the follow-on shortly thereafter. Zimbabwe started the second innings well, and were at 36-0 at the end of the session. However, the visitors soon suffered a major collapse thereafter and eventually succumbed to a heavy defeat of an innings and 120 runs in just two days of Test cricket action.
