Alastair Cook reached his double century in 360 balls as England took a 164-run lead over Australia on Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. The stoic opening left-hander reached 200 late on the third day, rebounding from a lean scoring series in the opening three Tests. It was Cook’s fifth double hundred in 151 Tests with his highest score of 294 coming against India in Birmingham in 2011. Stuart Broad scored a gritty half century to provide able support to the ex-skipper. Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins all took three wickets each for the hosts.
