Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami were on Sunday recalled to the 16-member India squad for the first three One-Day Internationals (ODI) against Australia, starting September 17. Meanwhile, spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested.

Both the spinners were not part of the recently concluded Sri Lanka ODI series that India won 5-0. In their place, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel would be the three spinners in the squad.

In the pace line-up, Shardul Thakur has been dropped and in his place Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami have been brought in. Both were not part of the recently-concluded Sri Lanka ODI series.
Shardul Thakur, on the other hand, has been named in the India A squad that will play two four-day games in Vijaywada against New Zealand A from September 23 to October 3.

{{/usCountry}}“The team for the three ODIs against Australia has been selected in line with the rotation policy of the Board and accordingly R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested,” MSK Prasad, chairman of the All-India Senior Selection Committee, said in a statement.
“The team’s performance during the Sri Lanka tour was outstanding and players like Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal, who performed very well are being given an extended run and this will in turn supplement our approach, to build a strong reserve strength, as we prepare for forthcoming tours.”

Terrific record
India have won their last five bilateral ODI series. They last lost an ODI series in 2015-16 against Australia.
The Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team will play five ODIs against Australia followed by three Twenty20 Internationals. Chennai, Kolkata, Indore, Bengaluru and Nagpur will host the ODIs while the T20Is will be held in Ranchi, Guwahati and Hyderabad.
