DEHRADUN: The state election commission will begin next month the spadework for the urban local body (ULB) polls by appointing enumerators, supervisors and registration officers.
Uttarakhand has 92 urban local bodies, including six municipal corporations, 43 municipal boards and an equal number of town panchayats.
The final electoral roll, based on which the local body elections will take place early next year, will be published on March 9, according to the schedule released by the state election commission. Though the election body has not announced dates, the polls are likely to be held in April next year. Those completing 18 years of age on or before January 1, 2018 will be eligible for voting.
“As the first step, appointment of enumerators, supervisors and registration officers will be held from October 24 to 27, followed by division of work (Oct 28-Nov 1) and training of officials (Nov 2-7). This will be followed by a door-to-door survey by enumerators from November 8 to December 11, who will mark any new addition, death or change of address in the lists,” state election commissioner Subardhan told HT.
The preparation (Dec 12-20), publication (Dec 21, 2017-Jan 21, 2018) and verification of draft electoral roll (Jan 22-Feb 1) will follow subsequently. After that, claims and objections will be invited from February 2-12, which will then be disposed of from February 13-20. The preparation of supplementary list (Feb 21-Mar 8) will be followed by the final publication of electoral rolls on March 9.

{{/usCountry}}Earlier this month, the Cabinet had given its nod to the expansion of 35 urban local bodies by merging adjoining villages in their limits. “The polls will be held according to the expansion of local bodies,” Subardhan said.
