The app, which is part of Delhi University’s innovation projects, has been developed in collaboration with Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC), New Delhi. This app is user-friendly, has both Hindi and English navigations with voiceover instructions. It is written in the Indian context, has pictures, diagrams and videos and it is free.

Downloaded once, it will be static with revisions available every three months. It will contain 12 modules, each with information content and FAQs. There will be an extensive glossary of words and phrases used in the app. In its full version, the app is likely to go live by July 2014.

Vimal Rarh, deputy director at the Centre for E-Learning and faculty at SGTB Khalsa College, says, “This app will be available for Android-based mobile phones and once installed, will need no internet connection. The technology used to develop this allows text, graphics, audio and videos to be displayed in a compressed format to enable navigation without any technical glitches. In the next version, we wish to make it interactive so that users can ask some queries and experts can answer them.”

The primary members of the Spinal Cord Society Consumer Committee are also guiding the students and are part of an advisory committee. Students have been training under Komal Kamra, faculty at SGTB Khalsa College, who suffers from a
spinal injury.
