R Santosh has been waiting for the photocopies of his HSC answer sheets for the last 13 days. Even if he gets them now, he will still not be able to apply for reevaluation as he has missed the extended deadline of June 24.
Like Santosh, more than 15,000 students will not be able to apply for re-evaluation, as the state board has not been able to provide them with photocopies of their answer sheets on time.
“The delay by the board in giving photocopies has cost us. We cannot apply for re-evaluation now,” said Ramesh Kumar, his father.
The state board admits the delay in issuing photocopies has been caused because more than 22,000 students from the Mumbai division – a record number – have applied for copies and rechecking of their SSC and HSC answer sheets this year, especially for physics, chemistry, biology and maths. Students found these papers, based on the new syllabus on par with the CBSE board, extremely difficult.
On June 18, the board had even extended the deadline for re-evaluation to June 22 -24 due to the growing number of requests. But since then, the number has jumped from 9,500 to 22,000 applications. Only around 7,000 students have received photocopies of their marksheets.

{{/usCountry}}“There is a mad rush, we are photocopying 150 answer sheets a day and making our staff work for at least eight hours every day,” said Laxmikant Pandey, chairperson of the Mumbai division of the board. Time is also required for tallying the marks in the answer sheet, he added.
Caught in the middle, students are unable to secure admissions to certain courses. “I had scored only 36 marks in physics, and I had applied for rechecking. I will have to forgo counselling for engineering courses at certain universities,” said a student, who secured 50% in the HSC exams. The student had scored 80% in the Class 10 ICSE exams.
