The proposal for the hike in PG courses in dental and medical colleges has already been circulated and, sources said, the hike in MBBS courses is likely in the next few days.

“A hike of around Rs 1.5 lakh is expected in MBBS courses around the state this year while a hike of around Rs 2 lakh annually has already been proposed for PG courses in private medical and dental colleges of the state,” said a senior faculty at one of the medical colleges.

According to the circular of the Admission and Fee Regulatory Authority (AFRC), colleges such as Index Medical College in Indore, which was charging Rs 6.75 lakh for an MD and MS course, the annual fee will now be Rs 8.55 lakh along with a caution money of Rs 25,000. Bhopal’s Chirayu Medical college has upped its fee to around Rs 9.50 lakh per annum.

The fee structure, which is revised once in three years by AFRC, will this year have the biggest jump compared to the last three cycles.

Dr Sanjay Dixit, vice dean of MGM medical college said, “This is the largest hike so far. If a rough assumption is to be made, one will find a jump of around 100% in the last six seven years.”
