A group of schools run by an education trust is planning to make carpooling and the use of school buses compulsory for its students while commuting to school in an effort to control air pollution.
Schools run by Salwan Education Trust is planning to float a proposal among all parents and teachers to make it compulsory for its students to either use school buses or travel by carpooling from the next academic session.
“Our kids are suffering due to air pollution. Individual cars should be avoided as it adds to pollution and traffic. We are planning to make the use of school bus or coming by carpool compulsory for our students,” said Sushil Dutt Salwan, chairman of Salwan Education Trust said.
The chairman said that at present around 300-400 cars come to each school every day to drop and pick up kids along with buses. But if the plan is accepted then this number will reduce drastically.
The trust is planning to get more buses to accommodate all students who opt for them. “Once the proposal is accepted by parents, we will get more buses for our schools. We are planning to do this from next academic session starting from April. Kids can walk or cycle also. We will make adequate arrangements for parking of cycles. So parents will have four options; walk, cycle, school bus and carpool,” he said.
