The transition from school to college is one that has usually been a difficult one for students. The students seek to break free from the shackles of school life without a clear understanding of the requirements of college life. Talk about freedom that a college life is supposed to bring to the students delude the students into believing that no rules govern their lives in college and very often by the time they recognise this to be a myth, it’s too late.

The first thing to do when you enter an institution is to find out as much as you can about it. There are a set of written rules and another of unwritten ones. Some of those would be a part of the college prospectus. In case your institution holds an orientation session, do make it a point to attend it. You may gather information that may otherwise not be easily available in one place. Library rules and timings, various societies and their auditions and the various members of the teaching faculty and the non-teaching staff are some of the things that you will get a capsule introduction to.

Ragging is strictly prohibited and every college has an anti-ragging squad in place. In case of an unpleasant experience, do contact the college administration. However, it’s very important to get in touch with your seniors. They are the ones who’ll be able to guide you through the maze of college life. From assignments to attendance to courses, you should select how to crack the exams; they will be your faithful friends through it all. The office, of course, is always there to inform you about the technicalities.

Enjoy but recognise your duties and responsibilities towards your institution, your parents and most importantly towards yourself. Be a responsible college student. And learn to be proud of your institution.
