Students help parents fill forms online for nursery schools

National Service Scheme teams of DTU have been moving around with their laptops in slums of the city to assist parents in filling the online form.

Moved by news on the problems being faced by the parents in the Economically Weaker Section/Disadvantaged (EWS/ DG) category applying for nursery admissions, students of Delhi Technological University (DTU) have come to their rescue.

National Service Scheme teams of DTU have been moving around with their laptops in slums of the city to assist parents in filling the online form.

Government this year has introduced an online system for admission under EWS category and made the process centralised.

Devoting their weekends for the purpose, the students had set up camps at Shahbad Dairy, Rohini and at Suraj Park near Badli Metro station. With their laptops and dongles, the group of 20 will help parents till January 22.

“Before being a part of it, we researched about the issue and came to know that parents were facing problems in filling forms. So we decided to set up camps. On January 10 the process was started and similar camps will be set up next week too,” said Minakshi Dutt, third year student of environmental engineering.

“About 70 parents had come to get their forms filled with relevant documents. Since the website was down we could not fill them all. So during the weekdays we will fill it for them. We have verified all their documents and taken the details,” said Dutt.

These students were able to nevertheless help about 20 parents.

“Most of the parents do not know how to fill the forms as most of them are illiterate. Filling forms is not the only issue, many also do not know about the documents that are required for admission,” said Jayant Verma, another third year environment engineering student.
