Work experience over higher studies for CAT topper from IIT-B

With a lot of IITians appearing for CAT, many often take up the exam to get a taste of the management side of jobs.

Mumbai boy Chirag Jha, a final year chemical engineering student of the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B), has scored 100 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT). Around 1.8 lakh students across the country appeared for the exam this year, the results for which were announced on Friday.

“Management has been on my mind for some time now, but I’ve already got an offer through campus placement, so I’m still in two minds about pursuing an MBA,” said the 21-year-old, who has bagged a job with an Indian company. Jha plans to consult his seniors to make an informed choice. “The job profile is interesting and it won’t harm to get some work experience before pursuing further studies,” he added.

For Rajiv Reddy, a 21-year-old final year electrical engineering student of IIT-B, appearing for CAT was for the pleasure of testing his logical thinking. “I attempted the examination just for the experience and I knew I’ll score well,” said Reddy, who scored a staggering 99.99 percentile. He had also bagged All-India Rank 11 in his IIT-JEE examinations four years ago.

Moving past her commerce background, 21-year-old Ruchi Aggarwal’s score of 99.99 percentile was a ‘special achievement’. “MBA has been my priority and I’ve spent most of last year preparing. I’m glad that despite having to concentrate on other examinations, including my final year TYBCom paper, I managed to focus on CAT as well,” said Aggarwal, who is also gearing up to appear for her final year Chartered Accountancy (CA) examination in May.
