In 2018, 21 candidates were competing for Kolar assembly constituency seat. Kolar was one of 37 seats won by the Janata Dal (Secular). It was a one way contest with Janata Dal (Secular)'s K.Srinivasa Gowda comfortably winning the election defeating Indian National Congress's Syed Zameer Pasha by a huge margin of 44,781 votes.
The top three candidates split 88.5% of votes between them. Janata Dal (Secular)'s K.Srinivasa Gowda got a total of 83,318 votes, while Indian National Congress's Syed Zameer Pasha secured 38,537 votes. Namma Congress's candidate R Varthur Prakash grabbed the third spot with 35,544 votes. The top three parties got 46.8%, 21.7% and 20.0% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Independent candidate R. Vathur Prakash defeated Janata Dal (Secular)'s K. Srinivasa Gowda by 12,591 votes.
