In the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election, there were 5 candidates in the fray from Mangalore constituency. Mangalore was one of 80 seats won by the Indian National Congress. Indian National Congress's U.T.Abdul Khader won the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Santhosh Kumar Rai Boliyaru by a margin of 19,739 votes.

The top two candidates split 95.5% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's U.T.Abdul Khader got a total of 80,813 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Santhosh Kumar Rai Boliyaru secured 61,074 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate K.Ashraf secured 3,692 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 54.4%, 41.1% and 2.5% respectively.
