Janata Dal (Secular)'s Raja Venkatappa Nayak got a total of 53,548 votes, while independent candidate Dr Tanusree @ Preeti secured 37,733 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Sharanappa K Gudadinni grabbed the third spot with 30,250 votes. The top three parties got 35.2%, 24.8% and 19.9% respectively.

In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's G.Hampayya Sahukar Ballatagi beat Janata Dal (Secular)'s Raja Venkatappa Nayak by 6,987 votes.
