In the Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Umbergaon constituency had 7 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 99 seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Umbergaon was one of them. The election for Umbergaon seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janata Party's Patkar Ramanlal Nanubhai defeating Indian National Congress's Patel Ashokbhai Mohnabhai by a huge margin of 41,690 votes.
97.0% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Patkar Ramanlal Nanubhai got a total of 96,004 votes, while Indian National Congress's Patel Ashokbhai Mohnabhai got 54,314 votes. Communist Party Of India (Marxist)'s candidate Bochal Hasmukhbhai Ramanbhai grabbed 1,348 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 61.9%, 35.0% and 0.9% respectively.
In Gujarat Assembly election 2012, Bharatiya Janata Party's Ramanlal Nanubhai Patkar defeated Indian National Congress's Govindbhai Vestabhai Patel by 28,299 votes.
