In 2017, 3 candidates were contesting for Banjar assembly constituency seat. Banjar was one of 44 seats won by the Bharatiya Janta Party. Bharatiya Janta Party's Surender Shourie won the election by defeating Indian National Congress's Aditya Vikram Singh by a margin of 3,240 votes.

99.0% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Bharatiya Janta Party's Surender Shourie got a total of 28,007 votes, while Indian National Congress's Aditya Vikram Singh got 24,767 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Jhabe Ram Kaushal grabbed 535 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 52.5%, 46.5% and 1.0% respectively.
