It was a close contest with Indian National Congress's Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janta Party's Vijay Agnihotri by a margin of just 2,349 votes.

The top two candidates split 95.4% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu got a total of 30,980 votes, while Bharatiya Janta Party's Vijay Agnihotri secured 28,631 votes. Independent candidate Lekh Raj Lekha secured 1,875 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 49.6%, 45.8% and 3.0% respectively.
