Big B's mother Teji Bachchan is no more

Teji had been hospitalised for over a year and was being treated for various ailments, reports Alifiya Khan.

Teji Bachchan (93), wife of poet the late Harivansh Rai Bachchan and mother of actor Amitabh Bachchan, passed away at 1.05 pm on Friday at the Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre in Bandra. Hospitalised for more than a year, she had been suffering from various age-related ailments.

"Late on Thursday night, Teji's health deteriorated and she was shifted to the intensive care unit on the hospital's sixth floor from her executive room on the 11th floor," sources told HT. Without divulging any details, Dr Narendra Trivedi, spokesperson and vice-president of the hospital said: "It was a peaceful and natural death."

The Bachchan family, including Amitabh, his brother Ajitabh and son Abhishek reached the hospital early in the morning followed by family friends Anil Ambani and Subrata Roy. The family cancelled all engagements scheduled for the week.

Teji had been hospitalised for over a year and was being treated for various ailments, including Alzheimer’s disease and lung infection. Last month, she had been shifted to the ICU after complications developed.
