There’s nothing real about reality TV marriages, after all. Just weeks after Bigg Boss contestants Sara Khan and Ali Merchant created controversy with their on-screen wedding, which was challenged by many including Khan’s parents who said they had already tied the knot two years ago, the marriage has fallen apart.
"Yes, it is true Sara and Ali are not together anymore. After she got back from the Bigg Boss House, she found out a lot of things that hurt her and took this decision," confirms Khan’s spokesperson, Swati Chopra. These "things" are apparently Ali’s breach of trust when Khan was in the house. A source close to Khan says, "When Sara was on the show, Ali did a lot of things that she did not like, like misusing her funds." A few days back, Khan asked Merchant to move out of her apartment in Mumbai, so he has moved in with his family.
Sara’s mother, Seema Khan, who always opposed the match, is ecstatic. "Yes, they have separated. We were anyway against the TV wedding and no one in our family likes Ali. Waise bhi yeh shaadi Ali ne dhoke se ki thi."
Ex-participants and viewers aren’t surprised. On being told, actor Manoj Tiwari broke into laughter. "I always knew it was a drama." Rahul Bhatt says, "I am not at all surprised by the news. It was all fake since the very beginning, and I had warned everyone." Sakshi Pradhan says, "They were a couple only because it brought in TRPs." Adman Prahlad Kakkar says the split was predictable." All the celebrities, be it Rakhi Sawant, Rahul Mahajan or Ali-Sara, who’ve gone for televised weddings, have only done it for publicity. They are just making mockery of the whole institution of marriage."
While Ali’s phone was switched off, Sara diverted us to her manager.
On November 12, HT City had reported that the Sara-Ali wedding was one big drama, giving the story, an apt headline Sara Tamasha. In the story, Sara’s parents had claimed that their television wedding was staged and that Ali was only after her money. Sara had however chosen to defend her ex-beau that time.
