It’s time you tried this Indo-western look; take inspiration from these Bollywood divas.

Do you mostly pair your traditional skirts with racer backs and short kurtis, and save your staple white shirt for formal pencil skirts? It’s time you mix the styles, and go for a fusion look, a la our Bollywood divas.

While Sonam Kapoor rocked a heavy embellished midi with a white shirt a few months ago, Neha Dhupia and Sarah-Jane Dias recently flaunted a similar look with printed skirts by designers Neha Agarwal and Falguni and Shane Peacock, respectively. Get inspired, and pair your formal button-downs with easy-breezy boho and banjara-inspired skirts.

“You get a beautiful, fun look when you mix and match the full circular skirt with a shirt,” says fashion designer Nida Mahmood. “You can re-hash a vintage skirt lying in your closet and make a new ensemble out of it by pairing it smartly with your office shirt,” she suggests.

Designer Jenjum Gadi also loves the fusion, and says the fun is in the novelty of it. “Fashion is all about trying new things and that’s what makes these looks exciting. Mixing it up by adding a formal touch to the boho-vibe totally works for me,” he says.

When going for this style, the rule is to not crowd the look. A pair of statement earrings, and a bracelet in case of short sleeves, is enough. For makeup, stick to neutral shades, says experts.

Take out that lehenga
Actors Sonam Kapoor and Esha Gupta rocked heavily embellished, kitschy-pop skirts by designer Manish Arora at different dos some time back. Get inspired, and recreate the look with your bridal lehenga or a heavy skirt you’ve been dying to wear. “Put your lehenga to good use by adding a touch of neo-casual to it. This comes by coupling the embellished lower with any solid-coloured shirt, a lightweight silk shirt and even a waistcoat or denim jacket,” suggests designer Anupama Dayal.
