Jwala Gutta is one of the most stylish sports personalities in India today. But the ace shuttler says that being glamorous does not always work to her advantage as people often judge her for her dressing sense. But Jwala, clearly is not the one to mince words as she says, “Being bold has nothing to do with the length of my clothes. Being bold is being fearless and having an opinion about issues. The definition of bold in our country is absolutely wrong. It is not fair; we live in such a hypocritical society where only film stars are supposed to dress up. It is almost like the shabbier you look, the more focused you are in your game.”
However, Jwala admits that these issues don’t bother her and that she liked dressing up and looking presentable. She has been nominated for Most Stylish Sports personality at the HT Most Stylish Awards. Her favourite piece of clothing, she says is the sari. “I like to put in an effort to look presentable. I look at other people’s clothes to see what they are wearing and what’s trending. There is nothing wrong in that. I like wearing sari’s and also long gowns. I am a tall girl and I am not petite so maxi dresses look good on me,” Jwala says.
Though she isn’t a fan of make-up, Jwala says that it takes her around 30-45 minutes to get dressed on an average. “I don’t use too much make-up. I just put some eyeliner and gloss and I am good to go. It also helps that I am blessed with good skin. I only take some time to do my hair so I am usually ready for any event in around 45 minutes”, says Jwala.
