There will be a touch of Kashmiri and Rajasthani fashion at the royal wedding of Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton. At their reception on the evening of April 29, choreographer Sandip Soparrkar and his wife Jesse Randhawa will be donning Indian designs for their closing Bollywood waltz performance.
The outfits for the big day — a gown-style Rajasthani gota work corset lehenga for Jesse and a sherwani jacket for Soparrkar — have been created by designer Manish Malhotra. “Since their performance is a fusion between Bollywood moves and English beats, the look had to be a blend,” says Malhotra. “Since we will be dancing, it was important that the outfit allows easy movement. The lehenga is light and it has coloured Kashmiri embroidery. There is also zardosi work at the hemline,” says Randhawa.
