Glittery golds, shiny silvers and bold bronzes are all over the style radar this season. From glamorous gowns that we spotted on the runway to loungy jackets donned by celebrities – all are a testimony to the flourishing popularity of this style.
But there is nothing new about metallic; for designers have been experimenting with this trend for a long time now. Metallic leather trench coats by Prada, Burberry and Vivienne Westwood were in vogue in 1930s. The style was present in Balmain’s 1950 collection and also in the most recent Versace show. In India too, many designers opted for this kitschy trend while curating western ensembles. The list includes designers Namrata Joshipura, Arpita Mehta, Monisha Jaising, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Payal Singhal and Nikhil Thampi . Designer Payal Singhal confesses that metallic is timeless and classic: “It adds a hint of glamour to evening wear.”

Recently, designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh and Sonaakshi Raaj, helmed this trend. At a recent fashion week in Mumbai, Singh presented a collection comprising silver metallic jackets, pants, skirts and shirts. Even the showstopper, Jacqueline was clad in an entirely metallic look. Similarly, designer Hemang Agarwal presented a mix of golds, silvers and bronze. Cutting the usual, Sonaakshi Raaj amalgamated the trend with Indian silhouettes
When it comes to styling the outfit, it can be a little tricky to which Raaj agrees as well. “To an all-gold-Indian outfit add a dash of colour by teaming it with emerald jewellery,” she explains.
