Monsoon essentials: This season is all about minimalism, so keep it easy and light. Avoid anything tight-fitting. Opt for comfortable silhouettes like shift dresses, umbrella or A-line skirts, palazzo pants, trapeze shirts and jumpsuits. For those looking to layer, a fine silk mid-length cape works well.

Bright shades, simple cuts: Turn to ’50s-inspired pop hues like canary yellow, sky blue and vermilion — it’s your best bet to brighten up a drab monsoon day. Sharp-yet-simple cuts that allow the body to breathe are ideal. Stick to fine cottons and linens.

Season’s biggest faux pas: To prevent factors such as humidity or a sudden downpour from ruining your look, opt for looks that are Spartan and comfortable. Keep surface embellishments to a bare minimum.

Beauty guide: Less is more when it comes to make-up this season. Avoid looking over-the-top. There is also the added concern that the humidity will wash down your make-up in a matter of minutes. Stick to a neutral base, glossy lips and slick hair.

Monsoon wedding: A pre-stitched jersey sari works perfectly for a monsoon wedding — it’s fuss-free, doesn’t require ironing or pleating, and the fabrics work superbly in this weather too.
