Opera gloves, that reach till or beyond your elbows, have been big on global fashion ramps this season. Take inspiration from fashion label Miu Miu’s Spring 2013 collection and Roberto Cavalli’s Milan collection showcased early this year. Fashion blogger and stylist, Santu Mishra says that these gloves provide a quick path to high-end glamour.
"Opera gloves are great, especially for the evening. They add a certain sense of drama to your look. Pair it with anything sleek, dark and mystical.
For the winter, think about coupling them with a sharp blazer or your favourite cocktail dress."
If you are looking for shopping options, local brands might not be able to cater. But, websites like e-bay.com and Amazon.com have some options that you’d want to explore. Or, binge on the local markets at Janpath, Sarojini Nagar, Paharganj and Lajpat Nagar, where you will find cheaper options. Better still, get them stitched after choosing the cloth of your choice.
Get the touch of vintage
Think Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s or style icon Elizabeth Taylor’s old Hollywood style and you can get the vintage look with opera gloves.
For a contemporary twist, go for fishnet, sheer or fingerless gloves. Choose colours like fuchsia or bright azure to add pop. Or, try the skull and cross bones or the horizontal striped ones for a punk look. Avoid white unless you are wearing a wedding gown!
