The big, fat wedding of Harbhajan Singh

Cricketer Harbhajan Singh is all set to tie the knot with his long-time girlfriend Geeta Basra in a grand ceremony on Thursday, October 29 in Phagwara (Punjab). And to add to the grandeur of the occasion, Harbhajan and Geeta have roped in celebrity fashion designer Archana Kochhar for their wedding dresses.

Cricketer Harbhajan Singh is all set to tie the knot with his long-time girlfriend Geeta Basra in a grand ceremony on Thursday, October 29 in Phagwara (Punjab). And to add to the grandeur of the occasion, Harbhajan and Geeta have roped in celebrity fashion designer Archana Kochhar for their wedding dresses.

“Geeta wanted a traditional look for all the important occasions, so we decided to go with lehengas, attached dupatta and a crop-top blouse with Indian work on it,” says Archana Kochhar, talking about the outfits she is working on for the couple. Harbhajan’s brief was classic and simple, she adds .

For the Mehendi ceremony, Archana designed a lime yellow lehenga and pink kurti with antique silver work. For the Chuda ceremony, it will be an orange lehenga made of ‘ahimsa silk’. The dress is said to be a blend of a fish tail skirt with a sheer embroidered crop top.

Bhajji, on the other hand, is keeping it simple and elegant with minimal embroidery on the wedding outfit. “I have worked on off-white, embroidered sherwani with an ornate red sword for Harbhajan Singh, who very keenly took part in the selection of his outfits. He was very specific about his look. For the Gurudwara, he will sport an achkan with breeches or churidaar, and a turban. He, too, has opted to wear an outfit made of Ahimsa Silk for one function,” adds Kochhar.

The wedding celebrations will be a five-day affair, including mehendi (which took place on Tuesday), sangeet , pheras, cocktail and reception, which will take place in Delhi on November 1.

The reception is likely to be attended by Harbhajan’s cricketing friends Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, among others along with Bollywood bigwigs such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra. As per reports Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the reception.
