Gurgaon: Monday morning woes for residents as taps run dry in parts of city

Residents across the city had to bear with shortage in water supply as water was not released from the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant (WTP) from 8 am on Monday. The supply is scheduled to remain stopped till 8 pm but it will be fully restored only by Tuesday evening.

The severely affected areas were sector 51, 42, 44, 45, 55, 56, 57, Sushant Lok Phase 3 and areas on the Sohna road that get direct water supply from the sector 51 HUDA boosting station, which gets its supply from the Chandu Budhera WTP.

Water supply from WTP was stopped due to the shifting of pipelines to facilitate the construction of underpasses at Rajiv Chowk, Iffco Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk, and also repairing of a major water pipeline that has developed a leak in Sector 5. Water disruption is expected to persist till Wednesday.

In the absence of regular water supply residents had to resort to availing water tankers for filling their tanks.

“After learning about the impending water crisis on Sunday, I had filled the overhead and underground tank using a motor pump. But regular water supply is already insufficient for my family’s domestic use and additionally my relatives are also over. Water ran out within hours on Monday morning, I had no choice but to call a water tanker and fill my tanks for Rs 1200,” said Zohra Alam, a resident of sector 42.

“On days with disrupted water supply, water only reaches residents living on the ground and first floor. I live on the fourth floor. After running the water pump for nearly an hour, water trickled to fill only one-fourth of my overhead tank” Santosh Khyalia a resident of sector 56 said.

Some areas may have got water supply in the morning, however, owing to power outages residents could not switch on their motor pumps and fill their tanks. They are now bracing for water disruption till Wednesday.

“Six-seven hour power outages is a regular feature in the locality during peak summer. I had crossed my fingers for electricity supply this morning but it wasn’t to be. Unless we haggle with water tanker owners, my family and I have to last with a quarter filled tank till Wednesday.” Ashish Kadiyan, a resident of Sushant Lok Phase-3 said.
