Gurgaon residents ‘bike to work’ on car-free day

Hundreds of corporate executives, students and other residents peddled to their workplaces, in an attempt to reduce congestion and pollution and promote a healthy lifestyle.

The city observed car-free day on Tuesday, which was also the global ‘Bike to Work Day’.

Hundreds of corporate executives, students and other residents peddled to their workplaces, in an attempt to reduce congestion and pollution and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Around 8 in the morning, a team of the Gurgaon police also cycled from Huda City Centre to the Iffco Chowk metro police station to spread awareness about the pollution-free mode of transport.

The team was led by deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Balbir Singh.

Corporate offices, such as Nagarro Software, also saw their employees reaching on cycles. Nagarro designated three spots in Gurgaon as cycle pick-up points for its employees. Employees of other corporate offices under industry body Nasscom such as Quatrro, Genpact, Fidelity, Dell and Snapdeal also came to their offices on cycles.

The public bicycle sharing (PBS) system in Gurgaon saw more rush on Tuesday. More than 50 people rented bicycle for commuting to work from the Huda City Centre metro station.

“The lesser motorised vehicles we use, the better it is for the environment. People should understand the need to lower the high levels of pollution in the city and promote cycling,” said Balbir Singh.
