People related to the property business, especially those travelling with huge sum of cash and mostly involved in land disputes, have been demanding guns for the safety of their lives.

However, the Gurgaon police’s decision in the last two years not to issue licences to people related to realty business especially property dealers, have pushed the latter to go in for illegal arms.

Stricter weapon licensing norms, though, have not helped the city gun-free. It has only given more space and potential to illegal weapon traders to set up markets here.

“We are in property business with huge money transactions. Threat to life looms large on our family. We cannot put our life at risk and are forced to carry illegal arms with us. No one wants to have these illegal weapons but government has imposed strict licence norms for guns. Applying for a licensed weapon has become very tough,” said a property dealer on the condition of anonymity.
