A 45-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in Kadipur village on Saturday. The man is the victim’s neighbour and was friendly with her family.

The girl and her parents sleep on the rooftop during summer and the man also shared the same roof space, police said on Sunday.

On Sunday morning, when the victim’s parents got up and left the roof, the five-year-old girl was left alone. Finding her unaccompanied, the man allegedly raped her, according to the police. They added that later her parents found her crying in pain and filed a complaint with the police.

A complaint under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act was lodged at Sector 10 police station against the man after the victim’s medical examination was conducted at the Civil Hospital on Sunday afternoon, police said.

“The victim’s statement was recorded after the medical examination confirmed rape. The man has been arrested and further investigation is underway,” said Anita Yadav of Sector 10 police station. She is the investigating officer of the case.
