In Pics: Two-day Gurgaon flower show dazzles residents

The closing day of the Huda flower show at Leisure Valley in Gurgaon saw eye-catching cultural programmes performed by schoolchildren of all age groups.

The two-day flower show organised by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) came to end on Sunday. Gurgaon deputy commissioner Hrdeep Singh was the chief guest on the closing day. Yashpal Yadav, administrator, Huda and VK Nirala, executive engineer, horticulture, were among a host of other dignitaries present on the day.

The closing day saw eye-catching cultural programmes performed by schoolchildren of all age groups. The events included group dance competition, solo dance, fancy dress competition, spot painting competition and baby show among others.

The Huda held prize distribution ceremonies at the end of all the competitive cultural events.

“For their performances at the cultural events, we handed out as many as 35 awards to children between 1 and 17 years of age. Our aim is to encourage children, especially from underprivileged sections of the society, to showcase their talent. We award the top participants and encourage them to dream big,” Nirala said.

“Similarly, we select nurseries, too, for awards on the basis of marks provided by the panel of judges. This year, Dr Amit Bhalla of Faridabad won the challenge trophy in individual category and Manav Rachna Educational Institute of Faridabad won in the group category. We had lots individual and group participants this time and hence, decided to award them separately,” Nirala said.

The Huda officials said nearly 10,000 people visited the flower show at Leisure Valley Park, Sector 29 over the weekend. Huda had total of 92 entries this year, as compared to 62 last year.

Yashpal Yadav said, “It was indeed delightful to see children so wonderfully well in these cultural programmes. We were also humbled and encouraged by the number of residents who participated in the event this time. They helped in making this event a grand success. Our aim is to create eco-friendly awareness and awarding participants is just a way to encourage them.”

The Huda said, the entries this time increased manifold from the last year and the crowd on the opening day was also a record.

Narbir Singh, Badshahpur MLA and a minister in the Haryana government, inaugurated the flower show on Saturday.
