According to a new study in Edinburgh and Glasgow, being a girl guide or boy scout helps you prepare for the future and deal with mental health disorders like anxiety.

As well as knowing how to tie knots, read a map, put up a tent and start a fire, a new study reveals that being in the scouts or guides during childhood also prepares your mind for the future.

Researchers at the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow led by Chris Dibben analyzed data from almost 10,000 people from the UK born in 1958. They discovered that those that had been in either the Boy Scouts or the Girl Guides as children (28% of the sample) were less likely (by as much as 15%) to suffer mental health issues, such as anxiety or mood disorders at the age of 50.

Being a scout or a guide in your formative years helps one fight against mental health disorders.
